    The perfect BD player
Just like it says, it’s region-free, plays everything and with great success. The start-up is quick and simple, the IQ is fantastic, audio is excellent, controls are good, the region change is simple and works like a charm. Pretty much the best purchase for physical media folks. Comes with the appropriate HDMI cable and EU power plug!

Great Player (May not be as advertised)
For the money, this is probably the best 4K (Ultra HD) Bluray player your are likely to find. It plays multi-regional DVDs just fine, right out of the box. It plays Region A, B, and C Bluray disks using the remote to toggle between regions. The USB-A connector is conveniently located on the front panel, allowing you to play media in a variety of formats from a USB stick. There are two HDMI output ports, which is great if you need to send the HDMI signal to two different places (e.g., a TV and a soundbar). Everything works very well. You won’t be disappointed by the video quality. As a plus feature, this will play SACD (Super Audio CD) format disks. If you know what that means, and if you have those disks, this is probably one of this deck’s most impressive features. It also plays standard CDs. Given my large collection of SACD disks and about a thousand CDs, it is nice to have one unit on the shelf that will play every thing that I own that is formatted on a 5″ disk. The only downside to the unit is that it is entirely controlled from the remote. There are no operational controls on the front panel. Although this isn’t a problem, it does require you to deal with another remote (unless you have a large programmable remote that is device independent). Now, here’s the tricky part… The X700 didn’t leave Sony as a multi-region player. That means that any unit you purchase that is a multi-region player has been opened and modified by, presumably, the source you procured it from (not Amazon, their reseller). When reading the reviews, I was led to believe that the only sure way to obtain a true “Region-free” player was to buy from the specific reseller “Bombay Electronics”. This cost me a $30 premium I opted to pay because I didn’t need to get into the endless swapping devices routine with Amazon Prime. The unit I received was in pristine condition, but it did not include an HDMI cable (which wasn’t a problem for me, but if you don’t have one laying around you should order one along with the player, knowing you can always return it if you don’t need it).So, this review is actually for the Bombay Electronics version of this player. It is entirely possible that the default reseller “M-System” will provide an equivalent multi-region modification, and perhaps even include an HDMI cable. I can’t arrest to it’s function nor its package contents. I do know that I am satisfied with the unit I purchased from Bombay Electronics, and except for the missing HDMI cable, it meets all of the specifications in the Amazon listing.

    BEWARE! Amazon Bait & Switch
I bought this primarily for the Region-Free capability. I have several discs from Region B that I cannot play on my Playstation. The product page on Amazon states that the seller is “220-electronics”. They modify this player to be region free and have great reviews, so I bought it. However, Amazon shipped this player using a different seller (Tal’s Marketplace). The player did not come with instructions on how to play blu-rays from other regions, or the 110V/240V power supply, or the HDMI cable. The discs I have would not play, even when I tried using tips from reviewers about pressing the colored buttons on the remote. I returned the player to Amazon for credit. Fortunately, 220-electronics was willing to provide one of their units directly to me. The unit arrived with everything I expected in the box. I’m giving this review 5 stars so it doesn’t make 220-electronics look bad. The replacement player from 220-electronics plays every region beautifully, and I haven’t even explored all of the other features of the player. 2 stars for the first player I received and the need to return it. 5 stars for the replacement player. Thank you 220-electronics!

    DO NOT BUY THIS!
As an avid film collector, I decided last year to buy a multi-region 4k/blu ray player. However, my mistake is that I ordered one which is modified by a company called Bombay Electronics and sold by OREI Direct. The device worked fine for about a year and did everything as advertised. Then it began randomly crashing and resetting itself. A few months after that, it stopped reading region B movies altogether. Changing the region code through the remote or updating the system made no difference.I contacted the seller, and of course the warranty is expired. Then they tell me not to worry and that they will help me. But all they did was tell me everything that I already tried and then repeat those few suggestions. After some mindless back-and-forth communication, they offered to look at the device if I paid to ship it to them, but offered no guarantee that it would be fixed. So, I either have to eat the $300 dollars I spent on something that a $50 dollar player could do; or, put my trust in a company that already demonstrated horrible customer service and technological incompetence.Bottomline: there is no excuse why this device should not be in perfect working condition after only a year of use. Maybe there are some 4k/blu ray players out there that are multi-region and work great for a long time, but I wouldn’t know. Don’t make the same mistake I did and buy one of these from the companies I mentioned above.

Great region free player for the money.
I spent all day watching my blu rays and testing my non usa collection of Alfred Hitchcock presents. Not one problem. I only had to use the color code chart once to get my Twilight zone collection to start up and that was it. The only reason it doesn’t get five stars is the home screen UI and app selection had a boring feeling I’m more of a Samsung guy but at this price it does what I wanted and the picture like Ben Hur is just amazing.

Comes in the official box with instructions inside! Tested out a Region B disc and worked just fine. Glad to finally make the jump to both 4k and Region Free players.

This arrived a day earlier than promised and plays every kind of disc I have with one exception, it does not play DVD- AUDIO. Which did surprise me but I only have 2 such discs and they play on several of my other players. Picture and sound are stunning and setting up was a breeze.
