Bought this instead of a CD player
Did you know that CD players are extremely expensive these days? When I decided to change from a shelf unit to a receiver/speakers and a CD player – I thought the CD player would be the cheapest thing I’d have to buy. NNnnnnope! CDs are outdated technology and I the cheaper units are no longer made. I wondered why this is… and then I realized that unless you’re an audiophile (or need a carousel), you’re probably just using your DVD or blu ray player in place of a CD player! Good thought… unless you have a cheap blu ray player and there’s only an HDMI hookup (which didn’t match up with the receiver I purchased). So…. I found this little Sony DVD player for around $30 and decided I’d give it a try. It came before scheduled, and it works brilliantly in place of a CD player. It doesn’t even look ridiculous next to my blu ray player! The sound is terrific, the unit is very small and the buttons to play, eject and stop are on the top right corner of the unit and easy to reach if you aren’t using the remote. I’m very satisfied with this purchase!

Cheap yet durable DVD player, feature heavy and responsive remote
I ordered this SONY DVD player from Amazon and the unit arrived at my house in just four days. I wanted to get a cheap DVD player with a trusted name, and at $30–and based on the reviews–I felt my search was over. The box includes a lightweight yet durable DVD player with an attached AC cord (you’d need an extension cord if, for whatever reason, you might want to set the DVD player up far from an outlet), a separate A/V cord, a remote control, and two Desay brand AA batteries (for the remote). The box also includes a manual and warranty information, but most appliances conform to the White-Red-Yellow color scheme of the A/V cords, and you really shouldn’t need any directions unless you’re new to TVs in general. The remote is great. Mind you I tested the DVD player on a front A/V of a SONY brand TV, but the remote operates both the TV and the DVD player (UPDATE: DVD remote only controls SONY brand TVs, and according to website, no guarantee to control all of them; in other words, it can’t be programmed like a universal remote). The remote has an eject button, which is a real luxury if you’ve ever bought a no-name or cheapo DVD player that didn’t have one! Volume control, closed captioning, everything you might want in a small remote design. The remote has pretty good range, too.I can’t speak on longevity, as I just received the unit and only tested one DVD so far, but I am very happy with the purchase, the features of the remote, the dim green ON light indicator of the player, and the lack of vibration/gadget noise from the player.UPDATE 12/2013:Have this DVD player hooked up to a VIZIO E-Series E241i-A1 24-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED Smart HDTV (tilted base). I have it hooked up via A/V cords, so the quality is only 480i. Still decent for a small bedroom. Good little player. Best paired with a SONY TV to make use of TV controls (remote is not programmable).

Works best as a CD player replacement, or DVD player for an old TV
If you’re looking for upconverting, 1080p/720p DVD player, this is not for you. It is a basic DVD player which will give you only standard definition 480i picture, which will look poor compared to a DVD played in a blu-ray or upconverting DVD player. In my opinion, the market for this “CD/DVD Player” is people who want a unit devoted to playing CDs, or to people who have an old tube TV or don’t care about “high definition” (which this is not).I use it as a CD player. I plug the player via ordinary composite video cable to the composite input on my TV. That way, I can see disk information by pressing the “display” key. You can skip to a different track by pressing the track number (1 or 2 digit) on the numeric keypad followed by the “select” key. Display shows CD length, time remaining, track length, time remaining. Also shuffle and track programming–just like old CD players.Oddly, the back has jacks for component video (RGB), which almost no TV has anymore. If you connect that way, you can get progressive scanning, a slight improvement, but still 480p. No upscaling. So I recommend it as a CD player with video access for display purposes, which you will need because there is no front panel LED display. The sound quality is excellent and this is recommended for its cheap price and sound quality, but not for high quality video.

Sony Vintage DVD Player, quality for good price!
I needed a replacement DVD player for my mother in law. She had a Sony and it lasted for 20 years. So I went looking, and found this, an exact replacement model. I have always had a lot of luck with SONY, lasts long, performs well. Price is reasonable, since there are not as many DVD players out there like 10-15 years ago. some resellers are selling units for a lot more than a fair price. This is a basic unit, RCA output connections, not HDMI, so read the tech info to make sure it will work for you. It was exactly what I needed!

    Great price snd works well

Works great and seems like a quality machine. My last DVD player completely failed when trying to play a slightly scuffed disc, however, this machine played the same disc right through, no issue. This machine is notably more quiet than my last one. I like the remote as it offers extensive custom functions like “advance”, “next”, slow/fast play, etc. The remote also has a nice size/weight to it so it will not be easily lost. Highly recommend this DVD player to anyone.
