Nice product for a good price
This little DVD player works great, makes it easy to use my old collection of DVD movies on a newer flat panel TV with HDMI connection. I had no problems with it and the picture and sound quality are pretty decent.

An Audiophile weighs in – I am using this MEGATEK unit as a CD Transport only…
I’m coming at this review from a different angle. You see, I’m an Audiophile (life-long audio enthusiast), and although I’ve long since stopped listening to CD’s, I still maintain a sizeable CD collection numbering in the thousands.Recently, I perused my vast CD collection and started thinking about listening to them again. However, in the audiophile world, purchasing higher end CD transports can cost you anywhere from $300 to $1,000. Then I read a review on another site which talked about just taking inexpensive DVD/CD players (budget models), bypass the internal audio processing chips, and connect the units via a digital coaxial cable to an external Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). Of course, you need to find a DVD player that also has a digital coaxial output (many only have HDMI outputs). The reviewer stated that the improvements to the audio qualities on a CD will be quite noticeable.OK – so over the past 3 months, I’ve tried 4 different budget DVD/CD players from different brands and in each case, I’ve had to send them back for a refund. And why? Because of noise and hum issues. Then I stumbled across this Megatek DVD player, and figured, why not try that one also. And I’m glad that I did. It has a very nice appearance and is quite compact, with a fairly extensive remote control. Since I was not interested in the video aspects of this player, I then connected a digital coaxial cable from the Megatek player to an external SMSL SU-1 DAC. This combination was sublime! The music emanating from this combo was warm, well-defined with much depth, and far superior to just using a DVD/CD player alone (where the music gets decoded in the player). So as I said, my usage of this Megatek player is quite different in that I was only interested in using it for its audio qualities and I must give it a full 5 stars based on what I’ve learned in this regard. I realize that most folks tend to stream their music now-a-days, but don’t give up on your CD’s as of yet. Use the combination as I mentioned in this review – it’s inexpensive (unless you have to buy a DAC also), and the audio output will be greatly improved.

  3. Bobcat-71

    As described
Came quickly and it was very easy to install and get working. Excellent packaging and the parts were well insulated and secure within the box. Used it a few ties and the quality seems fine. Smaller than I expected….very small profile which is good if you don’t have a lot of room. Only issue is the remote….the On/Off button doesn’t turn the system on. Also, the battery slot was not engineered properly and it is a pain to remove the batteries. Other than problems with turning on the system, the other remote batters seem to work fine, so it doesn’t seem to be a problem with the communications, but a problem with the On/Off button. Assuming it doesn’t break down, it is an excellent device for the price.

    Works well
I bought some DVD’s that were a non-USA format and found this player on Amazon. It was a very good price and was very pleased that it worked so well. Now I can buy DVD’s from other regions and watch and enjoy them. Very easy to set up and a very good price as well.

A Good CD Player at a Fair Price.
Megatek Compact DVD Player for TV with HDMI 1080p HD Upscaling & AV/Coaxial Connections for Multi-Formats & All-Region Free DVDs, Small CD/DVD Player for Home, USB Port, Remote & HDMI Cable Supplied *****I bought this for the wrong reasons. Well, yes, I have DVDs and want to have a back-up player in case my other DVD players stop working. But I don’t know what upscaling is or have a 1080HD monitor, I don’t have any out-of-my-region discs and none of my old coaxial cable TVs connect to HDMI cables. So I am not even using a lot of what this does.I bought it to play CDs. I got a cheap $20+ range amp with just on/off, volume, treble and bass. I hooked it up to some 4″ rear surround speakers. And it is a perfectly fine Compact Disc player and produces enough non-audiophile qualiity music to fill the room I’m in and kind of be heard from the kitchen which is the next room over.I will mention that it works best with pro/pre-recorded CDs. Home burnt CDs made with the computer sometimes chatter, stop or refuse to play. Which may say more about the quality of the discs than this machine.I am impressed with the USB port. I can load a hundred and forty or so songs – several hours worth of music on a playlist – onto a travel drive and that will provide a very long-form musical soundtrack. I haven’t tried it but I suppose I could do the same with a remote hard drive or hard disc container and let it play for days. So that is one modern feature that I think is terrific.I have been told there are dedicated music CD players that cost ten times what this cost that produce better sound quality, to which I say “well, duh.”I haven’t even mentioned that it comes with a remore control. I haven’t much used it. You hit power, open the tray, insert a disc, close the tray and hit play and it plays the disc, then stops. What else would I want it to do? Or insert a travel drive in the USB port and same thing: it plays all the songs, then stops. So I’m going to assume this does what it says as far as 1080p upscaling and multi-region disc play and DVD playing through HDMI connected equipment. I don’t know anything about that, but it is an excellent low-cost CD player for small room use and the ability to play long playlists through the USB port is a wonder.I am a comparison shopper and scrolled up and down through six pages or so of Amazon listings and I think this Megatek Compact DVD Player gave me the best bang for my limited supply of bucks.=https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Megatek-Progressive-scan-Up-Conversion-Display/dp/B07PNMTP1Y/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Megatek+Compact+DVD+Player+for+TV+with+HDMI+1080p+HD+Upscaling+%26+AV%2FCoaxial+Connections+for+Multi-Formats+%26+All-Region+Free+DVDs%2C+Small+CD%2FDVD+Player+for+Home%2C+USB+Port%2C+Remote+%26+HDMI+Cable+Supplied&qid=1624481104&sr=8-1

    Works great
Nice dvd player. I’ve had it for 2 months. I’ve had no issues with it. I have played a bunch of dvd’s in it. Some from different regions, They play great on my 4K TV. The player is easy use. It wasn’t difficult to figure out the remote.

  7. Robin M. Garrison

Terrific DVD player at a reasonable price.
I used the included HDMI cable for fast, easy connection and the manual took me through each step. My NTSC & PAL DVD’s are now good-to-go with the same DVD player. I don’t like to stream movies & programs so might buy another MEGATECH DVD player to replace the one in my living room. I very highly recommend this product.

  9. pallabg

The DVD player looks good. The picture is clear. I have successfully played DVDs made in USA, UK, and India. I have also played NTSC and PAL DVDs. The loading time is fast. However, the DVD player comes with a foreign plug. I had to buy an adapter for Rs. 30/-from the local market. A converter like this and a pair of AAA batteries should have been included with the DVD player, which would have made it ready for use. Otherwise, we are happy with the player after one day’s use. It has a warranty of one year.

I set up an out-of-use (HDMI-capable) TV in my exercise room and wanted a DVD player to go with it. I figured I would buy this one for my main TV and move my cheapie DVD player from there to this new setup. But the feature that allows DVDs to be played where you left off was attractive. I don’t finish a DVD before I finish exercising, so I decided to use this player in the exercise room. BTW, that feature works well and is VERY handy. The picture is good as is the audio. I also was able to play an out-of-zone DVD with no trouble. For the price asked, it seems good value for all the features. I haven’t linked the TV and DVD remotes so can’t say about the ease of this. But it all setup easily, except…[UPDATE Aug 23, 2020: Even though my old cheapie player still works, it does not have HDMI, upscaling, multi-zone, or last play memory, so I bought a second one of these Megatek players for my main TV setup. The one described below with the 4:3 problem is hooked up to an inexpensive Insignia TV. I now have more experience playing the other one, which is hooked up to an expensive and more recent LG OLED TV. With this setup, I CAN get 4:3 playback using HDMI. I have to go into the LG’s setup menu and select 4:3, but it all works. BTW, the picture does look good (relatively speaking since this is older material I’m looking at). So as I suspected, it seems that the TV in use DOES come into play regarding 4:3 playback using HDMI. The catch seems to be not with this DVD player, but the TV in use with it. It is impossible to know what the situation will be with your TV’s interaction with this DVD player until you try it. I never had this problem with my old player and the Insignia TV because I could only use component. When I swapped in this Megatek player I assumed the problem previously described below was with the player. My apologies to Megatek. I’ll go 5 stars.]Many of the DVDs I play on this set are of older material. Specifically, they are in 4:3 (old TV) format. I have found that if you only hook up HDMI and play back using HDMI, the 4:3 source material will be stretched left and right. Personally, I do not like this effect. I have thoroughly gone through the setup menus of both this player and my TV and cannot override this. The workaround is to hook the DVD player to the TV with component cables. (Possibly the single-cable ‘Video’ output/input would work, too, but that really is poor quality, even for this older material.)When you insert a 4:3 DVD you can go to SETUP > GENERAL > TV DISPLAY >and set to 16:9, and this should now display 4:3 format discs in the center of the screen (i.e. no stretching). But, this only works with component cabling, not HDMI. (If you do use component cabling, make sure to go SETUP > VIDEO > COMPONENT > and set to YUV, or you will get nothing through those component cables.) It is possible that your TV will display 4:3 normally (depending on the TV and the settings).Component cabling doesn’t allow for the same video quality as HDMI. But source material old enough to be in 4:3 is likely to NOT be in high-def. So, this isn’t a big problem. And you can still hook up using HDMI cable as well, and toggle back and forth with your TV remote. It isn’t an elegant solution, but works well enough. Luckily I still had some decent quality video and audio cables to do this extra hookup.

Ok, to be fair I just plugged everything in and it’s now playing my favourite CD. Tested and works with my USB drive too. So far, so good 🙂 For SGD100 it is doing its job decently, and it is able to do the same in one year’s time I would have gotten my money’s worth 😅 Go for it 👍👍👍

  12. Andy

For the fisrt hour I was impressed. Easy setup and decent upscaling, then:There is one big problem. On commercial DVDs (Rome, Sopranos, The Office) each DVD has several episodes. The first and second episode plays fine, and the upscaling good too. Sadly, It will not play later episodes. Sopranos – Disk 1. Episode 1, 2, 3 work. Episode 4 wont’s even start. Rome season 1,The second DVD has 3 episodes. 1, great. 2, near the end the picture gets progressively worse until it freezes. Using the menu to play the final 3rd episode fails completely – total freeze. The Office, Uk. Season 1, first 3 episodes play fine. 4,5,6, won’t even start.I have setup and resetup several times. Cleaned disks. Checked all connections. Tried two different high quality HDMI cables. Even tried using a different HDMI port on my TV. I know well about AV equipment and have ruled out bad connection, faulty cable, broken/scratched disk, TV issue, and have fully reset the player several times, including uplugging from the power, leaving it, then setting up again.Bottom line. It can only read the first parts of a DVD with episodes on it.The result is always the same. (See “Update,” below important.)This is upsetting because the upscaling is good for the price. (HDMI). However it’s kind of useless now as I can only watch the first one or two episodes of any drama/HBO series etc on any and all disks tried same problem.Update====== The Amazon market place seller was extremely helpful and sent me a new one at no cost to me.Incredibly, this one has the same issues. It can play the beginning of disks fine, but cannot go past half way.I will not request another replacement. This is a product with low quality components. Two brand new players with the same issue is too much for coincidence.Others have had similar problems so I will trouble shoot a few more days, but I am quite sure it won’t work. The only good thing is the kindness of the seller. Regarding the product, very disappointed and cannot recommend.
