As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as ‘human computers’, we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

    Where were the slide rules?
A great and inspiring movie and an inspiration to review the mathematics of orbital mechanics. But where were the slide rules? In an era before pocket calculators, engineering stations were awash in slide rules. They were carried on belt loops like western six guns, they were used as pointers and huge slide rules were hung on walls for demonstration purposes. Most of us had at least two: a Mannheim type and a log-log decitrig duplex, and some of us also had a small pocket sized six inch slide rule as well. Computers were needed because “slide rule accuracy” was sometimes not good enough (though for most purposes it was.) A pre calculator era engineer would feel naked without one. The computer ladies would have been no exception. A tiny Picket slide rule even went to the moon, landed and returned to Earth on Apollo.

    Wish there were more stars
Awesome movie, super enlightening story. We ended up going to the moon thanks to these individuals as well as countless others. And changes were started here on earth, for the better.Damn good movie!

    Great movie no damage
Great movie. I don’t recall if I bought new or used. Either way, the movie is a great movie and there was no damageNot much else to write. I will say….my favorite line is, “…Equal rights, I have the right to see fine in any color.”

Simply a Great movie with a great cast
Teraj P. Hansom was excellent as all other the other stars, but one of my favorites was Janelle’s Monae acting she’s a very talented and under rated actress and Kevin Costner did great as always.A clean movie for the whole family to enjoy.

Inspiring Film: Untold Story of African-American Brilliance
“Hidden Figures” is an inspiring film that highlights the untold story of three brilliant African-American women mathematicians at NASA. Taraji P. Henson delivers a standout performance as Katherine Johnson, whose calculations were pivotal in launching John Glenn into orbit. The film beautifully showcases the struggle against racial and gender discrimination while celebrating their extraordinary achievements. It’s a powerful and uplifting story that leaves a lasting impression.
