Short cord, but still works!
While the cord might be a bit on the short side in some cases, it’s still adequate for my usage. I don’t use the drive often, but when I do, it works exactly as needed. It’s hassle-free to set up, and it performs flawlessly on Windows 11. Excellent speed, solid quality, and great value for the price.

Great little player!
I’ve wanted to add a cd/dvd player to my all-in-one for a long time, but the last two I attempted to connect crashed my computer. I was nervous about this one, but read the reviews on how to handle any potential problems and felt comfortable hooking it up. It worked right off the bat! It’s super small footprint takes up no room on my desk, since I already have a plastic box sitting over my two small external drives – my player sits atop the box. VERY short cord, which was no problem for me because my USB extension sits right there. But if you needed to, you could successfully use a USB extension and it would still work fine. I love the ease with which this little player operates, the slimline footprint and all things about it.

Good Drive, But Annoyingly Short USB Cable
This drive works well with my Mac and is a good value. That being said, it has a permanently attached USB cable (which fits into a groove on the bottom of the player when not in use) that is preposterously short – for me, at least. When attached to the port on my iMac, there’s not even enough cable for me to point the drawer forward. I suppose the built in cord is a bonus for people who intend to use this as a portable and don’t want to be caught without a cable, but for my desktop use it requires a cable extender. Annoying, but not a deal breaker – as I said, it seems to work well and at a reasonable price.

Great External CD/DVD Drive!
This is a great external CD/DVD drive. I just installed a game with it, and it works perfectly for that purpose. It is also great for playing CD’s. It is very well made and well worth the money. I use it for my XPS desktop although it is made for a laptop, it works well. The only drawback is that the cord is a bit short when using for a desktop, however I didn’t find it to be a problem. It definitely has my recommendation.

worked at first till 3 years later cable now has bad connection. works now only in certain positions
really glad when I first got this. worked great with no problems. barely used it. kept it stored in a proper well condition interior environment. after about 3 years one day i pull it out and the cable is having connection issues. has to sit at just the right position to work and stay connected. I suspect the design of folding the cable for storage, versus it’s hard bed position when being used puts too much stress on the metal wires (probably too thin) and they start loosing connection. I wont be buying one of these again. looking for something that last longer then a few years. if your in a pinch, maybe worth it.

Morbidly slow data transfer speeds, but it didn’t need any setup and it was able to read disks.
I got this drive to retrieve files from a CD-ROM that I received from my doctor. The drive had a total of 620MB of images on it, along with a program for viewing the images. I plugged the drive directly in to my new (beefy) Windows 11 laptop using a USB-C adapter. It was recognized immediately. I put the disk in and was able to see the file. Then I double-clicked on the viewer program and waited. Using the process viewer, I could see that the program was loading. 5 minutes later the program opened. It was another 5 minutes before I was able to interact with it, and the interactions were very slow. I shut it down. I’ve used programs like this in the past with external drives, and they were slower than accessing a hard drive, but this was unusably slow.I really only wanted the data, so next I copied the files to my hard drive. The process took 15 minutes, but it transferred successfully. This was very painful. I ran the program from my hard drive and it was instantaneously responsive. For a speed comparison, I copied the files from my hard drive to a 12-year-old USB thumb drive and it completed in 45 seconds.I don’t have a music CD or movie DVD to test with this, but given how slow it was at copying files, I can’t imagine how it would be able to play either of them. I don’t have any burnable disks, so I didn’t try that either. Regardless, the quality of the hardware seemed fine (I didn’t get the impression that it was about to fall apart), and it worked, so it has that going for it. At this price point, you’re not really expecting it to be more than a device that gives you some basic functions, and it does that, so it’s worth the $20 I paid for it. For a device that you keep in a drawer for the rare time you need emergency access to some really old disks, it does the job, but nothing more; if you need a drive that you can use every day, this is not for you.I am giving it 2 stars because I think that most people would want to avoid it. It’s almost a disposable device, like something you use to rescue data from a disk or two, and then throw it away. You’re not going to use this back up your CD collection or DVD collection.
