What a Great Movie and Story
OK, I must be the only person that did not have to read this in 8th grade, and I had never seen the movie. So, my husband got this for us to watch, he admits that he can’t remember too many details about the story since he read it in 8th grade. I loved the story; I loved how the thread of the story line bound it all together. Sadly, this type of prejudice is still prevalent in our world almost a century later. I think books like this should be held up to our children to educate them against prejudice and not ban the book or movie because it may make some people uncomfortable, that was exactly what Harper Lee wanted you to feel. No one should be comfortable with injustice…ever.

    Timeless
After many years, I reread To Kill A Mockingbird. It inspired me to see if the original movie was still available. The DVD really took me back to another time, long gone now. I am from the South, so can remember the hot humid days and neighbors who sat on their porches and seemed to know all that happened in the neighborhood. Children were taught maners and expected to behave. But they also had the freedom to play freely and use their imaginations, to be creative. Sometimes people who were “different” were misunderstood and taunted, but regardless, had something to give to the community. It was also a time when the Civil Rights movement was in it’s infancy. Not everyone was treated equally under the law. Thankfully, there were a few brave soles who stood up for truth and justice. This is a movie that everyone shoiuld see. I emcompasses all of human nature, good and bad. It is timeless.

Fantastic movie, but do you really need it in 4K?
I bought this on sale on Prime Day even though I already had a standard definition copy… it was hard to resist a 4K + Blu-ray package at such a reasonable price. I also liked that it had a bunch of extras. The movie itself is great. 5-stars. The extras (haven’t seen them all yet) are not stellar, but interesting. The thing is, this movie was shot in B&W that had a lot less contrast and sharpness than some of the B&W movies that came decades earlier. It even has some shots that are slightly out of focus, and many that are lacking in contrast… in other words, quality that is far less than what 4K dan deliver, so having it in 4K doesn’t really buy you anything. You’re not missing anything if you get the Blue-ray version instead, but this one (with both) was cheaper than buying the blu-ray alone.

Good, wholesome movie; everything I remember it being plus some
I remember watching this in school after reading the book (a long time ago; let’s not go there), so I decided to add it to my collection without having rewatched it in…decades. It was a good watch, showing a bit about how far we’ve come, and maybe too much about how far we haven’t. Gregory Peck puts in a great performance, being the upstanding man of the community you expect. And, as an added bonus, you get Robert Duvall at the end of the movie.
