   It works, but there are no directions to be found
   I think this is a pretty cool idea. A lot of people need extra ports on their computer, and if you have a desktop, why not have a disc drive? You never know when you might want to play some legacy media.I don’t think I’ve ever seen an optical disc drive that doubles as a hub, nor one that has both USB-C and USB-A connections to the computer, and wires that tuck neatly into the underside. The only downside of the built-in wire is that you can’t swap it to extend the length – you’d have to buy a USB extender cable. But the upside is that this provides for great portability.I tested this drive with a Mac laptop. Even though one of the ports on the hub is labeled as USB 3.0, when I connected the drive to my Mac, the computer asked me if I wanted to use the attached “USB 2.0” hub.Playing a DVD worked well, although the computer first told me I had to set a region for the DVD drive. I chose North America. It told me I could change the region only a few more times in the future before it was stuck forever that way.I didn’t try connecting the auxiliary power cable, but I also didn’t need to. Trying one disc, USB memory stick, or SD card at a time seemed to work just fine without providing additional power to the device. It might need more power in the future if I try to push the limits.Even though this drive includes an SD card slot and a Micro SD card slot, it still comes with an SD-to-Micro-SD adapter card for some inexplicable reason. It’s never bad to have an extra one of these adapters, but it’s not really needed here unless you need to insert two Micro SD cards simultaneously.Due to the size of this device, the SD card slot is shallow, so your card will stick out the back by a lot. It also feels like a tight slot and there’s no pictorial indication of which direction to insert the card (turns out the golden connectors face down). The Micro SD card slot on the device suffers from the same problems (tight slot and no indication of which way to insert a card) so I’m too afraid to push my card in there lest it get stuck.It would be helpful if there were a manual, but this device comes with none at all. There’s a QR code I can scan for directions online, but the website doesn’t actually offer instructions for this device. So who knows what I’m missing out on?

   Device is very easy to set up and operates very efficiently. The small dimensions of the device is helpful in my application.

   Able to Watch Old Movies
   Years ago I had old movies from the 1930’s to 1960’s put onto DVD’s. I thought this would be a good way to preserve them. However, the new laptop computers do not come with DVD players built in. So, I got this CD/DVD drive mainly to play the old movies.I attached the player to an HP computer running Windows 11 using the USB-C port. It was plug and play. The laptop immediately found the player. There are several things I really like about the player. First, the end that plugs into the computer has both the USB-A and USB-C ports so I can also use it on my Windows 10 laptop which only has USB-A. The plug tucks into a slot on the back of the player so it all stores flat. Second, the player comes with additional ports including: one USB-C, three 2.0 USB-A’s, one 3.0 USB-A, an SD card reader, and a micro (TF) card reader. This is a definite bonus as most of the new laptops come with only a few ports and most don’t seem to come with card readers.The only issue I had was I wish the cord that plugs into the computer was a little longer. I use my laptop on a stand that is only large enough for the laptop. There was no way to reach the laptop stand from the desk surface using the cord. When I use the player, I either have to prop it on top of a small box so it can reach the laptop on the stand or place the laptop directly on the desk so both are side by side. Not at all a deal breaker, but a longer cord would be nicer given that so many people use laptop stands.Overall, I’ve had no issues with the player. It plays my old movies perfectly and has given me hours of enjoyment. Five stars.

   Works Well
   This DVD player was effective at reading some old DVDs that I finally have time to use. That being said, it has been a while since I’ve used DVDs, and have not used them on this new laptop. So it took me a few minutes to get the player working.First of all, the DVD player is nice and compact with a built-in USB 3.0 adapter. Having the adapter attached means that there is one less cord to search for when I’m ready to use it. My DVD did not play automatically as soon as I inserted it into the player because my laptop does not have a built-in DVD reader. I was able to download an app that could handle that function, but then noticed that the little business card that came with the player has a QR code, so I could access the user manual. When I used the QR code to access the Unitek website, I did not see my DVD player model listed (T040A). Instead, I typed that model number into the search bar, and the manual appeared. Besides from providing instructions, it also provided a website where I could download VLC, a free and open source multimedia player that smoothly connected with the Unitek DVD player. At that point, I was up and running.I like that the DVD player also functions as a hub, meaning it has several different types of slots that allow me to insert a USB 3.0 memory stick, and other format devices, not just to play movies, but tosee photos, read files, etc. The 3.0 slot was rather tight and I thought I was going to bend the memory stick, but hopefully it will loosen up after a few times.I like that the device also came with a second adapter cord and a memory card. So overall. I am satisfied with this device.

   Easy to use
   This DVD drive is very easy to use. After making sure you have an app that will play a video, simply plug the cord that’s already attached to the drive into your device, and that’s it!The videos I’ve tried have played without any issues, and the quality is what one would expect for DVDs that are twenty+ years old.I’m happy with this player and recommend it without reservation.

   読み込み、書き込みも出来るだけじゃなく、HUBとしての役割もしたくれるのでこれ一個差し込めば結構広範囲でサポートしてくれるのが楽で使いやすかったです。また、ケーブルがUSBAとtype-Cが分岐して一本になっているので、そこも余計な切替器とか挟まなくて良いのが便利だと感じました！これだけの機能があるので一緒に持ち歩くのはこれひとつで充分といった感じです。価格的にも納得でした。

    各種ハブの付いた、DVDドライブ。これは便利ですね。ドライブ自体使うことは少ないのですが、稀に必要な時があるので。良い買い物でした。ただ、デザインはいまひとつです。

    HUB・カードリーダ付のDVD/CDドライブで補助電源無しでもDVDの書き込みはできました。付属のUSBケーブルはデータ線が接続されていない電源専用です。電源インジケータの代わりでしょうかPCに接続するとロゴが光ります。なお、説明書には記載されてませんがUSB3.0ポートの下の小さいスイッチでロゴイルミネーションのON/OFFができます。USB3.0のポートですが、10Gbps対応のデバイスをこのHUBに接続した場合とPC本体直接接続では然程差は無くUSB3.0(5Gbps)の速度はでていました。ちなみに、USB-Aで接続したときは伝送速度は問題なかったのですがUSB-Cで接続するとUSB2.0程度の速度、別のPCでも試したが同様、不良品か仕様かどちらかと思いUSB-Cのプラグを確認したらUSB3.0の端子が無くチェッカで調べてもデータラインはD+､D-のみにてUSB2.0でした。PC本体がUSB-Cのみの場合、本HUBのUSB3.0のポートを5Gbpsで使いたい場合はUSB-AにUSB3.0対応のUSB-AtoC変換アダプタつけてPCに接続する必要があります。ノートPCにCD/DVDドライブとハブをケーブル１本で接続できるところは便利ですが、ノートPCはUSB-Cのみも多くなっているのでUSB-Cが2.0という仕様は残念ですね。
