Settle down in Pawnee, Indiana, with Golden Globe winner Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation: The Complete Series. Join small-town civil servant Leslie Knope (Poehler, Saturday Night Live) for every awkward strategy meeting, kooky idea and delicious bite of waffle as she strives to make City Hall a better place. By her side are her beloved—if quirky—colleagues: the deadpan Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman, The Lego Movie) (and his mustache!), apathetic April (Aubrey Plaza, The To Do List ), rockstar-in-his-own-mind Andy (Chris Pratt, Jurassic World), trendsetter Tom (Aziz Ansari, Buried Alive), best friend Ann (Rashida Jones, I Love You, Man), smart-mouthed Donna (Retta, Sex Ed), loyal Ben (Adam Scott, Hot Tub Time Machine 2) and the always energetic Chris (Rob Lowe, The West Wing). Oh, and Jerry (Jim O’Heir, Accepted)… or is it “Larry”? Featuring a deep bench of comedic talent and guest stars from the world of politics and sports alike, this seven-season set includes all 125 episodes of the smart, irreverent, heartfelt series from Primetime Emmy Award-winning producers Greg Daniels (The Office, King of the Hill) and Michael Schur (The Office, Saturday Night Live). Enjoy every laugh from “a show as rich and full as Ron Swanson’s mustache” (Anna Silman, Salon Magazine), back-to-back and uninterrupted!

    An awesome series
Parks and Rec was another mockumentary show from the creators of the US version of The Office. It starred Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, an overeager and chipper worker in the Pawnee Indiana Parks and Recreation department, who wants to do her part to save the world. She is gung ho about civil service, politics, government, etc. In contrast, her boss, Ron Swanson (played by the great Nick Offerman) is a Libertarian who hates government and is only working in government in order to grind it to a halt. The supporting cast includes Aubrey Plaza, who plays the apathetic twenty-something April, her doofus of a crush Andy, played by Chris Pratt, the guy who was always looking for a side gig, Tom, played by Aziz Ansari, Leslie’s “best friend” Ann played by Rashida Jones, Donna played by Retta, in later seasons Ben played by Adam Scott, Chris played by Rob Lowe, and Jerry/Larry played by Jim O’Heir. The show is a pretty standard sitcom that has a story or theme of the week that the characters have to navigate. The comedy style is much like the other mockumentary shows like The Office and Modern Family in which the jokes are either set up or performed and then there is some kind of follow-up either a reaction shot of characters in the background or cutting to one of the characters being interviewed by the documentary crew, or something like that. The humor is all over the place given the wide range of acting styles. Ron’s humor is much more gruff and deadpan while Leslie’s is more chipper and upbeat. Chris Pratt does a great job playing a dimwitted doofus who thinks he is a rockstar, and pretty much everything Aubrey Plaza does is awesome. The complete series set is just the individually packaged DVD seasons in a box set. There is nothing new if you have already purchased the individual seasons. There is also a blu-ray version of the complete series set out there, that from the looks of it, has the same overall content as the DVD set. The big reason to get the physical discs (beyond just preferring them over streaming as many of us do) is for the extras. Each season has a bunch of extras including commentary tracks on many episodes, deleted scenes, gag reels, fake PSA spots, and more. One of the best extras is a great joke that Chris Pratt made during the comeback story scene that cracked everyone up that is included in one of the gag reels.Overall, the series is wonderful. It is very well-written and acted. It did take a couple of seasons to really find its footing and did have some cast turnover after season one. But, once it found the formula that worked it was strong all the way to the end. There were a ton of great guest stars including people like Will Arnett, Tatiana Maslany, Jenny Slate, Patton Oswalt, and even the occasional DC politician. While the entire cast is great, Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman were the standouts to me. His scenes with his real-life wife, Megan Mullally, who plays his ex-wife, Tammy II, were pure gold. While it is a show about politics and certainly it was easy to tell the political leanings of the showrunners, it made fun of both parties, Democrats and Republicans alike. And, it holds up well even after having been off the air since 2015. I highly recommend it, especially if you like political comedies.

    Parks & Rec Saved Me
I’d watched a few episodes once, and wasn’t really sure, but returned to it during the Pandemic Lockdown, and fell in love. Chris Pratt’s chaotic buffoonery, April’s smoldering flat-affect, Ron, and Leslie’s relentless enthusiasm in the face of adversity won me over ultimately. I decided on a physical collection because of the ever-growing covetous behavior of the streamers, and the rising prices of their greedy fiefdoms. The packaging is about as compact and functional as I’ve seen with such a large collection. As opposed to some that just fall apart. Well worth the investment, for one low price, AND NO COMMERCIALS.

    Love it
Parks and Rec is a great series. Inevitably there is some unevenness in terms of interest. But overall, it is hilarious. And the characters are awesome: distinct from each other, believable (within the world of the show), and every one bringing something to the show.

    Best sitcom ever!
This is honestly my favorite TV show of all time, and I’ve several people say the same thing. Also it has had some trouble with streaming rights, boincing between services. It’s better just to own it physically. I do wish they did more commentary for later seasons, but just the base show is enough to earn 5 stars from me.

    Love this show!
I discovered Parks and Rec when it was on Netflix and thought it was absolutely hilarious. I now consider it one of my favorite sitcoms, right up there with classics like Seinfeld and Frasier. The characters are likeable and each one brings something unique to the table. All the characters are good, but I think I appreciate the humor of Ron and Andy the most. I often laugh at loud at some of the silly things they say or the faces they make. I also really like Leslie and her enthusiasm, and the fact she is a great female role model. I missed not being able to stream the show anymore, thus I decided to order this DVD collection so I could watch it whenever I like. The set was very reasonably priced ($30) when I ordered it. (I paid way more than that for DVD collections of other TV series I ordered in the past.) In addition to all of the shows, the discs contain many extras, such as commentary and deleted scenes. The discs also have closed captioning, which I always like. The entire set played well with the exception of a couple of places where a disc skipped a bit. That is likely due to the fact that my DVD player is old versus a problem with the discs themselves. Great show, great DVD collection … would definitely recommend!

Bough it for my mom and she loves it!
After parks and rec got split between different streaming services my mom stopped watching because the prices are getting out of hand. We’re about one more price increase aways from going back to the times of dvds! So this was a great alternative and she can watch her go to show now!
