    A Beautiful Work of Art
This movie shone in a dark theatre! I watched it four times, by myself, with my wife, with my kids. The story was wonderful, casting was excellent, music outdid the original! After Dune, I couldn’t imagine Timothee Chalame as Willy Wonka; after Wonka, I could never see anyone else in the role. The wonders of this film scrubbed away the awful dross of the previous remake, and I am glad. Wonka is a sculpture, a painting and a carefully crafted piece of multicolor blown glass I am array of color which could only come from a World of Pure Imagination! A truly beautiful film in an otherwise quickly-darkening world. Rent it, buy it, listen to it with your whole being: Wonka is a beautiful world!

    I didn’t have high hopes.
I bought this movie with the expectation that it would be another culturally or politically charged movie trying to push ideals under the guise of a family movie. Thankfully, I was wrong! I have always been extremely critical of movies and it is difficult finding movies that don’t have me complaining at the screen about some wack physics or obnoxious dialogue. This movie might not be revolutionary, but I feel that it is one of the best movies to come out in the past few years, possible the past decade. The characters each have plenty of personality, without getting obnoxious or pushing any type of narrative. The dialogue between characters is great and the story flows really well, without me ever uttering to myself “what the heck?”.I wasn’t a huge fan of the way they ended it(regarding the villains), but I felt it was perfect for a family movie. Timothee Chalamet played a wonderful version of Wonka. His Wonka was very naive, but not in the utterly obnoxious way where the hero is left completely hopeless. His singing and dancing were very well executed and choreographed well. The supporting cast had the perfect amount of inclusion and it didn’t feel like every character was fighting to get their 5 seconds of spotlight in every scene, like you see in so many movies and shows now. (“One-Liners”)I won’t give anything away, but the story is simple, fun, and solid. Also, the timeline of this “young Wonka” fits in with the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie’s timeline regarding the ages of Timothee and Gene Wilder. To sum it up, this movie was FAR better than I expected and I would have no problem suggesting that someone buys this movie instead of renting it first. I can’t tell you how many times a day someone in my family will break out into one of the songs from the movie! lolHopefully they will not consider making sequels to this one, because sequels always get increasingly worse in every series (except for LOTR+HP), which brings down the public view of the whole series.Oh yea, also fwiw, we’ve watched the movie about 10 times in 2 weeks. It doesn’t get worse with each viewing; I actually feel it gets better!

Whimsical family fun, but caution for sensitive kids.
I watched this movie on an international flight and loved it so much I purchased it. It is definitely one we will enjoy watching again. The fantasy world is magical, the music very enjoyable, the acting very good and the storyline is sweet. Why deduct a star? I do feel uncomfortable having my kids watch the attempted murder scene. I wish at the very least the rescue would happen before it is implied they are dead. That could give sensitive kids nightmares. I’m also not fond of the sexual undertone in a few scenes with Scrubbit and Bleacher, a bit too adult for a children’s movie. Overall, there is much I do love about this movie so I recommend it, but with caution for sensitive children.

Note 1
